The annual January Red Paint PowWow is a competition among Native Americans from across the continent, held in memory and recognition of the Chihene Apache who lived — and continue to live — in Southwestern New Mexico. Traditional dancers compete for prizes in a number of categories, accompanied by native drummers and singers.
